In Their Own Words

Our Soldiers, Our Heroes
You stand tall for our honor and our freedom,
Representing what America has always taken pride in,
You put your life on the line and fight,
For what you believe is right.
We watch as you walk away,
With hope and longing in your eyes,
Knowing that this goodbye could be the final goodbye,
You wake each day to gunshots,
To bombs and planes,
To men crying and dying at your feet,
The things that your beautiful eyes have seen,
Would make any person crazy,
Realizing that peace is out of reach and hope is hazy.
Every phone call we really don’t want to answer,
Every knock at the door fills us with fear,
Will you ever be free of this fight,
Will you ever be able to sleep through the night,
If I could see what you have seen,
Would I want to look,
If I could feel what you have felt,
Would I want to feel,
If I could hear what you have heard,
Would I want to listen.
No one could be prepared for the things that you have seen,
And what you have had to do,
No one could be properly trained on how to survive,
In this war, this battle, this way of life.
We can never thank you the way that you deserve,
Can never repay you for standing your ground,
No words could ever express our gratitude and love,
That we have for you who constantly protect who we are,
All that we can do is pray for you to our Lord above.
So much blood has been shed for the American dream,
so many lost there lives for you and me,
for the hope of tomorrow,
and the glimpse of peace,
The love of our country,
Has never seized.

Until then is what I say,
For this is not our last day.
What binds us together I pray
Will remain strong with each passing day.
Thoughts of us will replay in my mind
And when you return, my love you will find.
I am touched by the courage and strength you hold
You are the reason for our freedom, thanks from my soul.
As you travel to places unknown
With faces never to be shown.
Know that total commitment of a heart so true
Can only grasp a part of my love for you.
Take each step along the days
and know that I’m thinking of you in so many ways.
